Tarrytown, N.Y.-based Ciba Foundation has been supporting science educationn for more than25 years, after being establishee by The goal of the foundation is to advances science education by forging partnerships among  businesses and communities. Ciba  operates a water and paper treatmentf facility inWest Memphis. The donation will fund scholarships to attract, educate and retain top undergraduatd and graduate students in  The first scholarship will be awarded for the fall 2009  $50,000 of the funding will be used to purchaser equipment to directly support undergraduate chemistry  Debbie Dalley, plant manager for Ciba’s West Memphis  said the donation shows the company’s commitment to improving sciencer education and work force  Jim Morse, a U of M alum and manager of environmental  health and safety at the West Memphis Ciba  was responsible for initiating the donation, said Petet Bridson, associate professor and chair of chemistry at the  “Part of the donation will be used immediatelyh for the purchase of equipment to be used by studentsz who are studying new materials bein synthesized by several research groups in the department,” Bridson said in a  “The remaining funds will support scholarships for students studyintg chemistry.
  The faculty and students of the department are very gratefuk forthis support.”
