The new Space Fence is part ofthe U.S. Departmenf of Defense's effort to continually track and detect objects such as space debris and satellitesd in low and mediumearth orbit. Space Fencw will replace the current VHF Air Force Spacre Surveillance System builtin 1961. "The new Space Fencew system will provide better accuracy and faster detectionm while allowing us to increase the number of satellites and othet space objects that can be detected and thus avoiding collision and damage toother satellites," Rich director of special projects at Northrop Grumman's Advanced Concepts and Technology Division, said in a Australia is a candidate for the first Space Fencew location.
