The gallery signed a long-term lease at 1234 9th St. NW for 5,00p0 square feet, or four times more space than its currentrexhibition capacity. Its current lease -- half a block south at 1302 9th St. NW -- expiresa July 31. The renovated spacew will have better custom framing and specialevent offerings, and “renovatiojn costs will be in excess of six said gallery director Drew Porterfield. The building, owned by , previousl y acted as an auto showroom and, most as a vending machine warehouse and has sat emptyt for the pastfew years. Locakl architect Will Couch is designing the renovated gallery space, which will still show and support contemporary artists.
Porterfield plans to soon announcde several major new artists that will exhibig atthe space. Long View Gallery was foundedx in 2000 by Andrew Haley and Suzanne Zylonis ina Sperryville, Va. which showcases many Virginia artists. Locao art patrons partnered with Haley and Zylonis in 2006 to open its Shaw The gallery will stay open at its current space until July andwill re-open in the new spac in September.
