Chrysler Tuesday terminated its dealings with 789dealershipsz nationwide, . An estimated have been told their franchised will not be renewednext year, accordinyg to the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association. GM says it eventualluy may dumpsome 2,600 of its dealersz nationwide. Both Chrysler and GM have receivee governmentrescue money, and both have filexd for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, a move that will make it easierf for them legally to shed dealerships. Both have said theie nationwide dealer networksare overextended. Perlmutter wrote to Rep. Barney Frank, Housd Financial Services Committee chairman, and Rep. John House Judiciary Committee chairman.
Perlmutter is a member of Frank’es committee. He asked them to hold a jointt hearing to examine the potential impacts of the Chrylsere and GM corporate restructuring plans on dealersand suppliers. “Hearinbg from the companies, dealers and other affecteed parties will help bring to light the areasw where the path forward can be improved and providew an essential dialogue to ensure the restructuring of these companiees is done in the best mannefr for our nation andthe taxpayers,” he wrote.
