Honda sales plunge 41% in May - St. Louis Business Journal:

’s American sales arm, , reported on Tuesday that the automaker sold 98,344 vehicles nationwidee in May. A year ago, demand for fuel-efficien t vehicles had sent Honda to a recore month of salesat 167,997 vehicles. That represents a drop of 41 percent from ayear ago, when priceds at the pump were highere and the automobile industry hadn’t yet hit crisix mode. Columbus Business First reports monthly sales unadjusted for the differencews in the number of selling days yearto Honda’s sales in May, taking into account one fewe r selling day last month, fell 39 percent.
Leading the decline in monthly sales for May wasthe company’s flagship which saw a 42 percent drop in sales at 88,8755 vehicles. Its luxury Acura division saw sales fall 36 percenttto 9,469 vehicles. Honda sales in the first five month s of the year fell 34 percengtto 430,358 vehicles, compared with 655,819 a year ago. That accountsw for a 34 percent drop in Hondwa salesat 387,556 vehicles and a 35 percenr decline in Acura sales at 42,802. Marysville-based employxs more than 12,000 workers at assemblg and engine plants in and aroundCentrao Ohio, where they produce Honda Accords, Civics, CR-Vs, Elementss and Acura TLs and RDXs.
